This rare demantoid garnet gem weighs 2.52 carats, and it was faceted in a round brilliant cut. It has a high crown and very rich, deep green color,(this natural demantoid gem is unheated and untreated). See also another photo of this natural demantoid gemstone. When examined closely, this extremely rare gem does contain "horsetail" inclusions which guarantee its natural origin and add to its value as a true demantoid garnet gem from the Ural Mountains of Russia. Demantoid garnet is considered a class II gemstone in G I A nomenclature. Class II gemstones grow with moderate inclusions expected, possibly visible to the unaided eye. In addition to the desirable “horse tail” inclusion which is visible on the underside of this gemstone, this gem also contains some very small hollow, straw-like needles, some of which may be seen with very careful scrutiny by the unaided eye. Due to the needle like inclusions this gemstone would be properly called S I (slightly imperfect), under the class II G I A grading system. The beautiful deep green is very desirable for this type of gemstone.
