This piece of 100% natural obsidian was mined in Mexico. It appears to be black, but if you look closely at the freshly broken surface in the photo at left you can see that it actually has areas with green and purple sheen visible at certain angles. The beautiful sheen colors become much more pronounced when viewed with a bright light source on fresh surfaces or when polished. This piece of rainbow sheen obsidian is top-grade lapidary material, it would make a wonderful carving, or it could be made into a couple of 2.5" to 3" spheres with plenty of material left over for cabochon gems.
