Tektites are thought to have formed from the extreme heat and pressure produced during a meteorite impact on the surface of the earth, which is believed to have melted both the surface of the earth and the meteorite itself fusing them together in a natural glass tektite which cooled quickly as it fell back down to the earth after the meteorite impact's explosion.

According to mineralogists, tektites are natural silicate glass that formed during a meteorite impact. These natural tektites are thought to have been created in the extreme heat and pressure produced during a large meteorite impact on or near the earth's crust.
The tremendous force and heat of the meteorite impact is believed to have melted some of the surface of the earth along with the meteorite itself, fusing them together into a natural glass which cooled quickly while it was falling back down to the earth after the meteorite's explosive impact.
