Rough Peridot

Peridot is the natural green gem variety of the mineral olivine. From ancient times until the eighteenth century, peridot was known by the name topazion or as topaz. This was due to the fact that one of peridot's earliest mining locations was on the island of Topazios which is known today as Zebirget (formerly as the Isle of St. John) located in the Red Sea. In the eighteenth century the official name topaz was given to our mineral topaz of today, and gem-grade green olivine crystals then became known as peridot!

Peridot is still being mined today at several locations around the world. We specialize in unheated and untreated real peridot that was mined in the earth!
